The Jamesport Fire Department responded to a critical incident involving a Vehicle vs. Pedestrian accident on Sound Avenue on June 19, 2023.
Upon the arrival of 1st Assistant Chief Daniel Doroski, it was confirmed to Firecom and other units that a male pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle and was in immediate need of life-saving measures. CPR was promptly initiated at the scene.
Jamesport Rescue 4, staffed by Chauffeur William P. Leonardi, Lieutenant Edward Ferger, and Firefighter Jason Pedota, responded swiftly to the scene to assist Chiefs Harold Griffiths, Daniel Doroski, and Raymond Ellis with continued CPR and patient care.
Shortly after the arrival of Rescue 4, Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps (RVAC) Medic Sean Rossner and his partner Matthew Dinson joined the effort. The patient, who was in cardiac arrest at the time, was quickly prepared for transportation to Peconic Bay Medical Center.
At the request of Paramedic Rossner, Lieutenant Ferger and Firefighter Pedota assisted in the patient's transport. Despite the patient's severe injuries and unconscious state, the team was able to achieve a return of spontaneous circulation while en route to the hospital. This positive outcome can be attributed to the high-quality pre-hospital care provided by the combined efforts of the Jamesport Fire Department and RVAC.
Our thoughts are with the patient and their family during this difficult time. We'd like to commend our members and RVAC for their exceptional response and dedication to providing life-saving care under challenging circumstances.
