At approximately 0430hrs on Saturday, August 3rd, The Jamesport Fire Department was alerted to a report of a house fire located on Sound Avenue within the Jamesport Fire District.

The first arriving unit was 1st Assistant Chief Daniel Doroski, who reported heavy fire showing from the rear of a two-story colonial-style home. Chief Doroski was informed that there were no occupants reported to be inside the home at the time of the fire and the cause was unknown.

2nd Assistant Chief Raymond Ellis along with the first arriving engine, Engine 2, secured a positive water source and the crew deployed a 1-3/4 attack line into the structure, initiating fire suppression efforts. The second due engine, Engine 1, provided additional manpower to conduct searches of the fire floor and floors above and below it, as well as supplying a secondary attack line.

Comprehensive searches of each floor were conducted, and no victims were found within the structure.

Mutual aid was requested from several neighboring departments, including the Riverhead Fire Department, Mattituck Fire Department, Cutchogue Fire Department, Southold Fire Department, and Flanders Fire Department.

As crews made headway on the fire within the house, the fire had began to extend into the second floor and ultimately made its way into the attic space at the 2/3 corner of the structure. Once the main body of the fire was knocked down on the first and second floors, crews focused their efforts on extinguishing the fire in the attic. With the assistance of the Riverhead Fire Department's Ladder Truck, they were able to create a hole in the roof and safely and effectively attack the fire.

The entire operation took approximately 3.5 hours from the initial attack to all units returning to base. There were no injuries or fatalities reported from this incident.

The Jamesport Fire Department extends its gratitude to all the mutual aid departments for their invaluable assistance in managing this incident.
