In loving memory of John "Appy" Apicello
(November 30th, 1940 - April 5th, 2024)

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a true hero, John "Appy" Apicello, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Appy's journey was marked by unwavering dedication, selflessness, and an indomitable spirit that touched the lives of many.

Born on November 30th, 1940, Appy embarked on a life of service early on, first serving his country in the Navy before answering the call to become a firefighter. His commitment to serving others led him to join the Jamesport Fire Department in 1974, where he would leave an indelible mark over five decades of devoted service.

As an Ex-Captain and Commissioner of the Jamesport Fire Department and Fire District, Appy's leadership and passion for the safety and well-being of his community were unmatched. Rising through the ranks, he became Captain of Engine 2, Company 4, and eventually serving as a department Safety Officer, which is a testament to his exemplary dedication and skill.

But beyond his official titles, Appy's true legacy lies in the lives he touched and the bonds he forged. Known for his infectious smile, storytelling prowess, and willingness to lend a helping hand, he was a pillar of strength and guidance for his colleagues and the younger members of the department.

Appy's commitment extended beyond the firehouse doors; he was a devoted family man, always by the side of his son, John Jr., who followed in his footsteps. His love for his family, friends, and community knew no bounds, leaving an enduring legacy of compassion and camaraderie.

In his spare time, Appy found solace in the simple pleasures of life, whether tending to his garden, enjoying a game of softball, casting a line while fishing, or escaping into the wilderness on camping adventures.

As we mourn the loss of a beloved firefighter, mentor, and friend, let us take comfort in the memories we shared and the legacy Appy leaves behind. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his guiding presence will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

Rest easy, dear friend. Your watch may have ended, but your legacy of bravery, kindness, and service will endure for generations to come.
